So, you have had an abortion?  Think
you are alone?  Think again!

By age 45, 1 of ever 2.5 women in the
United States will have had at least 1
abortion.

How you feel after an abortion should
not be a 'political' or 'religious' issue -
if you have a need for support, or
emotional or physical problems, they
should be treated just like the issues
with any other medical procedure.

There is a syndrome that has been identified to a group of symptoms following an abortion
called “Post Abortion Stress.” First you might feel a very strong sense of relief following the
abortion knowing that the pregnancy is over. However, sometimes a woman experiences
confusing thoughts and emotions after that sense of relief and sometimes it can take 5, 10, or
even 20 years to come to the surface. It is those confusing thoughts and emotions that make
up Post Abortion Stress (PAS).

Some of the signs of PAS are often:
    • Guilt                                                 • Regret
    • Remorse                                          • Shame
    • Low self-esteem                               • Insomnia, dreams & nightmares
    • Anxiety                                             • Psychological numbing
    • Depression -- thoughts of suicide    • Re-experiencing the abortion
    • Anniversary syndrome                     • Preoccupation with being pregnant again
    • Anxiety over fertility issues               • Development of eating disorders
    • Survival guilt                                    • Hard to bond with present or future children
    • Alcohol and drug abuse                   • Hostility toward men, even a husband
